Following Jesus means striving to be like Him. He always obeyed His Father, and we can strive to be like Him too (John 8:29; 15:10). We accept Jesus as Lord of our lives. (Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 12:3; 2 Corinthians 4:5). Every decision and dream is then filtered through His Word with the purpose of magnifying Him in all things. (1 Corinthians 10:31).

We are not saved by the things we do for Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9), but because of what He has done for us. The important thing is that we give the Holy Spirit complete control over every aspect of our lives. (Ephesians 5:18). He explains the Scripture to us (1 Corinthians 2:14), gives us spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11), comfort us (John 14:16) and guides us (John 14:26).

He said to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”. (Luke 9:23-24)

If you decide to follow Jesus, you must do three things:

1. Denying yourself.
2. Taking up His cross daily.
3. Following Jesus.

Jesus doesn't mention any alternatives. The third step, actually following Jesus, is impossible until we have taken the first two steps, denying ourselves daily and taking up our cross. What does it actually mean to "deny yourself"? Denying yourself means saying no to yourself. That is the instruction Jesus gives here.

Having faith in Jesus Christ means trusting Him so much that we do whatever He commands. By placing our faith in Him and thus becoming His obedient disciples, Heavenly Father will forgive our sins and prepare us for our return to His kingdom.

Denying yourself means saying no to yourself, your own desires, or your personal goals, and saying yes to Jesus. This means you stop doing certain things in your life and start doing others. Think of praying, reading the Bible, giving praise, and telling others about Jesus' love.

The Bible can be so difficult to understand. And when you finally open it, where do you begin? But thankfully, we don't have to read the Bible alone; Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as his "translator." The Holy Spirit makes His home in our hearts.

The Holy Spirit as translator ‘For whatever may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it known to them.’ (Romans 1:19).

Read Romans 1, take a moment to pray beforehand, and ask the Holy Spirit to explain the words you read and help you understand what you read in the Bible and let it sink in in your heart.

Maybe you always do this, maybe not. Do this every time you read a devotional or open your Bible. God longs to reveal himself to you!

The Bible teaches us that God plants you in a place to grow and bear fruit. (Psalm 92:14, Ezekiel 17:8). That's why it's good to discover what you'll be part of, and why we're happy to discuss our principles with you. Don't hesitate to talk to one of our senior members about membership.

After each service, there's an opportunity to talk and pray for you. God wants to help you; he listens, and we're happy to help. Feel welcome in our community. You are a beloved child of God. (John 1:12). He made you so beautiful (Psalm 139:13-16).

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Jesus gave this command to the apostles just before he ascended into heaven. Essentially, this is what Jesus expected the apostles, and those who would succeed them, to do during his absence.
